Borussia Dortmund are planning to hold talks over a new contract for Nico Schlotterbeck in a bid to lock the 25-year-old centre-back into the club beyond his current deal until 2027.

Schlotterbeck is reportedly prepare to leave Signal Iduna Park this summer if Borussia Dortmund fail to secure Champions League football, with the player a target for Liverpool, who are looking for a replacement for Virgil van Dijk should the Dutchman leave Anfield.
However, the 25-year-old centre-back is open to staying at Borussia Dortmund even if the Black and Yellows do not qualify for Europe, although talks over a new contract are currently on hold, and if talks resume they are expect to offer double his current salary of around €5-6m per season.
Despite Dortmund’s poor form, Schlotterbeck has been one of the only consistent performers in the squad this season and has also been a regular in the squad.
At the weekend, things got worse for BVB as they lost 2-0 to RB Leipzig, however, just like last season, Dortmund are performing in the Champions League. They came back from 1-0 down in the second leg against Lille last week to win 2-1 and earn a place in the quarter-finals against Barcelona.
